Similarities
110mm Rough Stuff wheels and 120mm Foamies are designed in the UK to combat our less than ideal riding surfaces. When we released the RS wheels in 2018 they became the biggest polyurethane wheel available for skateboards worldwide, only overtaken by the Foamies in 2019 which are the new holders of this title.
A larger diameter wheel allows you to roll over bumps, cracks and manhole covers much easier than standard skateboard wheels. The convex profile of both wheels also helps with this by pushing rocks out of the way instead of stopping you dead in your tracks.
Both wheels use the same ABEC style core so if your board fits this pulley style it’s likely compatible with all 3 of our wheel options. With the exception of more traditional style decks like the urban kick which have some of the deck about the wheels, to avoid wheel bite you will need our larger risers and bolts.
Differences
The main two differences are the diameter and the foam core. The Foamies come in at 120mm instead of 110mm, this only adds 1-2mph to your top speed but helps smoothen out the bumps and allows us to have a thicker foam layer inside.
Another world first for skateboard wheels is the addition of the foam core. One of the main quibbles of eboarding are the vibrations and numb feet you get after riding at speed for a few miles, this is where Foamies are unlike any other wheel. They soak up the majority of vibrations passed through the board which makes riding for long periods much more manageable. Mike Boyd managed 60miles in one day with only solar power using the Foamies!
